Of course, Sheen was asked about his infamous behavior that dominated headlines last year, including his very public departure from CBS’ Two and a Half Men.

“It was a crazy time. It’s sort of like a dream I couldn’t wake up from…It was a runaway train I couldn’t get off of, and I was the conductor. It’s something that could never happen again, so that’s pretty cool,” Charlie says. “I learned a lot. I learned stick to what you know. I learned, don’t go on a one-man show to 21 cities with no act. My life’s different now that I’m not insane anymore. I’m accountable most of the time.”

Earlier in the day, FX president John Landgraf announced that the show will likely get picked up for its back-90 episodes. While the number seems a bit daunting, Sheen doesn’t seem too worried. “It doesn’t put any pressure on me….That’s something we can’t control…[It's] exciting as hell. I don’t think 90 is going to be enough. I said that out loud, didn’t I? I feel like how we’ve started, we’ve just scratched the surface.”

Should the sitcom be picked up (which is all but official, really), Sheen’s father Martin Sheen will join the cast as a series regular, playing, you guessed it, his father on the show. “He’s great to work with,” Sheen gushes.

Richards, who guest starred in an episode this season as a love interest for Sheen’s character, is also welcome to return to the FX series, as the actor says, “We had a ball working on the show…she was fabulous on the show. She’ll probably come back and she’s welcome back.”

Executive producer Bruce Helford adds, “She did a great job. It was really nice to have Charlie’s family on the set.”

Last week, Sheen told Ryan Seacrest that he was “genuinely interested” in becoming a judge on American Idol, saying it would be “radical.” And guess what? Sheen is still interested in replacing Jennifer Lopez or Steven Tyler! “Sure, why not?” he says. “For me, it’s not all about the work, it’s about the experience.”

So have Idol‘s producers been in contact with him about the gig? ”No, they put it out there like you heard it for the first time, like I heard it for the first time. [They] have my terms,” he tells us.

Finally, Sheen talked about Kathy Bates playing the ghost of his former Two and a Half Men character on a recent episode of the CBS comedy. ”A woman who won an Oscar playing an impossible role…if you read that part in a book, there’s no way that part can come to life, and she did it,” he enthuses. “For her to play me…I thought she was great.”

Sony pulled off a surprise yesterday when it added the Android 4.0-powered F800 and E470 to its popular and long-running Walkman series of personal media players.

It isn’t Sony’s first Walkman to run Android (in January the company unveiled the Z series) nor is Sony the first company to use Android for media players. Samsung and Archos, for example, have used the OS, with the Galaxy Player 4.2 being Sammy’s most recent example.

Yet, for all the success that Android smartphones have reaped, there are no top-selling media players running Google’s OS at its core. This makes me ask: does Android matter in personal media players? From the look of things, I suspect that it does not.

Here are a few reasons why Android-based media players have not taken the world by storm. These are not to say that any one company is doing things wrong, nor is to suggest that things are not subject to change. Rather, I’ll give a broad look at some of the factors that have helped determine why the iPod won’t have big competition anytime soon.

Why even bother?
Considering that some of today’s Android tablets have the same price tag as a media player, it’s hard to argue for the smaller form factor. Take, for example, the Nexus 7 and its quad-core Tegra 3 processor, 16GB storage, and front-facing camera. At $249, the 7-inch tablet comes with the latest version of Android (4.1 Jelly Bean) and boasts some rather powerful hardware. That’s quite a lot for such an affordable price.

The Sony F800, on the other hand, comes with a higher price tag but half the screen size, no camera, an “old” version of Android, and “only” a dual-core processor. And while the F800 is considerably more portable than the Nexus 7, the tablet is still lighter than my old CD Walkman and offers access to more than 600,000 applications.

Apps are a key factor here, as well, given that many consumers expect their portable devices to handle multiple tasks. Even the Nintendo DS has evolved over time to function as a portable player for games, music, and other media. What’s more, users have simply become conditioned to expect touch-screen devices to do more. If you could read magazines, news, or RSS feeds with the same device that plays your R.E.M. collection, then why wouldn’t you? Products like the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 make it tough to argue in favor of a 3.5-inch PMP that doesn’t have access to the same wealth of content.

Given that smartphones typically come with more powerful hardware and lower price points, it’s even harder to justify a $250-$300 Android-based media player. Sure, there’s the counterpoint that these handsets require data plans or contracts, but the fact remains that people are buying smartphones at a faster rate than ever before. At some point or another, many consumers will choose from a wide selection of products that run Android, feature sleeker and thinner designs, and include cameras and other goodies such as NFC or GPS.

What’s the point, then, in spending a couple hundred dollars on another device that only offers some of what your handset does? You’d be dropping cash on a second product that delivers a fraction of the experience. Wouldn’t you be better served putting that money into something entirely different?

Of course, I concede that there are times when I don’t want or need my phone on me, but I’d still enjoy a few podcasts or playlists. In these scenarios, I’d appreciate having a media player, but I’m content with having my mobile. Alternatively, my wife doesn’t want to take her phone with her when she goes on long runs, no matter how thin or light. She’d rather have a tiny MP3 player on her arm that doesn’t have the weight and size of a smartphone.

As much as I love Android and all that it offers, I have come to accept that the MP3 player market is Apple’s to lose. I’ve enjoyed my time with devices like the Galaxy Player 4.2 and the Archos 28, but I’ve come to rely on the power and flexibility of my smartphone. When it comes to a good old fashioned PMP, the iPod is still the king of the hill. What is a search term group? Basically, you want determine which search terms people will use to find your website. There are a number of different tools for this. Google AdWords has a great tool that can show you estimated traffic as well.

Once you have identified the list of search terms, you can likely group them together based similarities. Each grouping will need its own landing page.

Let us take for example a website that sells handbags. There will be different keyword groupings. They may be:

• Leather handbags, Italian leather handbags, leather purses
• Evening bags, evening purse, clutches
• Totes, leather totes, tote handbags

Someone searching for a leather handbag will want to land on a page that shows leather handbags immediately. They will then know they are on the right site and will spend time seeing the selection of bags available. If they wind up on a page that does not show them a leather handbag, they may leave before spending more time on the site.

The same is true for the other search groupings. Someone interested in buying an evening bag should land on a page about evening bags. If they are searching for tote bags, they should land on a page about tote bags.

2) Content and Images

An effective landing page will have content and images focused on the target audience for that particular landing page. You want to tailor the user experience based on what brought them to your website.

Content is important. Make sure the content includes the search terms that you are focusing on. This will help to rank higher in the search engine results as well as let the visitors to your site know that they have found the right site.

3) A Call to Action

Every landing page needs one or more calls to action. Whether you want them to buy something, register for something, browse more options, etc, you need to make sure you have a visible and easy call to action.

You want every desired action to be within 1 to 2 clicks from the page they are on. Ideally everything will always be just 1-click away. You want to carry that through all the pages of your site.

You should also capture e-mail addresses. Offer a newsletter, free information, a coupon code, etc and people will give you their e-mail address so you can engage in a continued sales and marketing effort. It is important your landing pages include a reason for the visitor to give you their email address.

Make sure you spend time crafting landing pages that will be effective. Put yourself in the mind of your target market and create an experience they will find efficient and enjoyable.
